1 PhD Research Position in Next Generation Wireless Networks at Technical University of Berlin

Reference number: IV-554/17

Working field:
The CCAN chair at the Technische Universität Berlin deals with distributed control in next generation wireless networks. The future of wireless communications is envisioned with ultra-dense networks where a variety of emerging technologies such as machine-type/device-to-device communications and small cells coexist. Due to the density, dynamicity and lack of information, the optimal control of such networks is very challenging. The problem becomes aggravated when the control and optimization has to be done in a distributed manner. The main working theme of this position is to address such challenges using theoretical methods from game theory, machine learning, and dynamic programming. PhD thesis preparation is possible and will be supervised by Prof. Dr. Setareh Maghsudi.
Requirements:
Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in at least one of the following fields:

* electrical engineering (with strong background in wireless communications),
* or mathematics (with strong background in operations research),
* or computer science (with strong background in machine learning),
* or economics (with strong background in game theory).

Applicants must have strong background in mathematical analysis, and must be motivated towards theoretical problems with a strong mathematical flavor. Good programming skills (at least MATLAB or C++) and English proficiency are also required.
How to apply:
Please send your application with the reference number and the listed documents

* a curriculum vitae, stating clearly and precisely their education history, earned degrees and previous academic institutions,
* letters of recommendation from academic advisors, MSc thesis supervisors, academic instructors (up to 3 letters), together with contact information,
* if applicable, published research work, including MSc thesis, in electronic form
* a letter of motivation and purpose, illustrating how the candidate's knowledge and background fits in the aforementioned research area;
* official grade transcripts with certified translation in English or German if the original documents are in a different language

preferably by e-mail to maghsudi@tu-berlin.de<mailto:maghsudi@tu-berlin.de> or in writing to Technische Universität Berlin - Der Präsident - Fakultät IV, Institut für Telekommunikationssysteme, FG Control of Convergent Access Networks (CCAN), Frau Prof. Dr.-Ing. Maghsudi, Sekr. TEL 12-11, Ernst-Reuter-Platz 7, 10587 Berlin.

To ensure equal opportunities between women and men, applications by women with the required qualifications are explicitly desired. Qualified individuals with disabilities will be favored.

Please send copies only. Original documents will not be returned.

Application deadline : 8 December 2017
