[DMANET] Funded PhD position, optimization / medical robotics, Hamburg

The Institute of Medical Technology at Hamburg University of Technology
has an open position for a Research Assistant / PhD candidate. The
fulltime position is funded for two years (salary according to level E13,
app. 43K EUR p.a.).

We have a research focus on robotics and navigation in medicine.
Particularly, we are currently interested in multi-criteria optimization
and machine learning methods to plan ultrasound image guidance for robotic
radiosurgery. This involves a large scale combinatorial optimization
problem. Your tasks include developing and publishing new methods,
fostering and extending collaborations with clinical and in-dustrial
partners, and preparing further grant proposals.

The successful applicant finished a Master's in computer science or
similar fields with outstanding results and has a solid background in
optimization (particularly mathematical programming), heuristic search and
machine learning methods. Excellent programming skills (Java / C++) and
fluency in English are essential; experience in pub-lishing papers is a
strong plus.
