Summerschool: Order and Geometry

August 7 to 10, 2013

Doellnsee, nearby Berlin

http://www3.math.tu-berlin.de/MDS/summerschool13.html

======================================================================

The summerschool is organized within the Research Training Group
"Methods for Discrete Structures".

The purpose of the summer school is to give an introductory overview
of some new developments in the area, to present current research
directions, and to give students working in this or related fields the
opportunity to meet and to get to know each other.

The school is addressed to advanced undergraduate and graduate
students of Mathematics or Computer Science with interest in partially
ordered sets and discrete geometry. Basic knowledge in discrete
mathematics is assumed. The summerschool will be followed by a workshop
on the same topic (http://page.math.tu-berlin.de/~felsner/workshop.html).
Participants of the sommerschool are encouraged to stay in Berlin
for the workshop.

The summer school consists of four courses.
The courses will be presented by the following lecturers:

William T. Trotter, (Georgia Tech, Atlanta)
Posets, Graphs and Geometry: Links and Applications

Piotr Micek, (Jagellonian Univ., Krakow)
Coloring intersection graphs

Rom Pinchasi, (Technion, Haifa)
Applications of Duality and Euler's formula in plane geometry

Gwenael Joret, (Universite Libre de Bruxelles)
Entropy of partial orders

In addition to the lectures, exercises will be solved in small groups
with solution sessions in the evenings. The language of the school is
English.

The summer school will take place at Doellnsee, a picturesque lake in a
natural reserve 60 km northeast of Berlin. The costs per participant
are EURO 150 and include transportation between Döllnsee and Berlin
and full board during the summer school.

The number of participants is limited to about 25. Applications can be
submitted using the form on the summer school website until June 15, 2013.
