[DMANET] PhD student positions at the University of Salzburg

Funded PhD student positions at the
University of Salzburg

Two funded PhD student positions are available in the research group
"Efficient Algorithms" headed by Prof. Dr. Robert Elsässer at the
University of Salzburg. The earliest starting date is December 1st,
2012; a later starting date can be negotiated. PhD positions are usually
for 4 years. Depending on the candidate's qualification and experience, the
first contract may be limited to 2 years with the possibility of extension
for another 2 years.

The first position is in the field of theoretical and empirical analysis
of real world networks. The successful candidate should also work on the
design of new graph models, which can properly approximate the
structural properties of these networks. A Master's degree (or
equivalent) in Computer
Science or a related discipline is required. The candidate should have some
experience in parallel programming. Basic knowledge in randomized algorithms
and experience in data mining and/or machine learning is a plus.

The second position is in the field of design and analysis of algorithms
for fundamental problems in large networks. The successful candidate is
expected to analyze the behavior of various information dissemination
algorithms as well as of different interacting algorithmic processes in these
networks. A Master's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Mathematics,
or a related discipline is required. The candidate should have some basic
knowledge in the field of parallel/distributed algorithms. Further knowledge
in the field of randomized algorithms is a plus.

Informal inquiries can be sent to robert.elsaesser@sbg.ac.at.
