[DMANET] PhD position in Discrete Optimization at TU Berlin

The Department of Mathematics at the Technische Universität Berlin invites applications for a

PhD student/postdoc position in Discrete Optimization
- full-time research assistant (100% TV-L 13) -
for 3 years starting as soon as possible.

The position is associated with the BMBF funded project "Optimization of optical communication networks with flexible channel bandwidth ", which is part of the BMBF/Celtic network "SASER - Safe and Secure European Routing".

We are looking for a PhD student or postdoc who is or wishes to specialize in discrete optimization. The successful candidate will participate in the development and the implementation of mathematical models and algorithms to solve large-scale optimization problems arising in the planning of telecommunication networks.

The position will be located in the research group "Discrete Optimization" at TU Berlin, which is associated with the "Combinatorial Optimization and Graph Algorithms Group" (http://www.math.tu-berlin.de/coga/) with 20+ researchers interested in combinatorial optimization, integer programming, network flows, scheduling, online and robust optimization, graph theory, and their application in practice. The successful candidate is encouraged to apply to be a member of the BERLIN MATHEMATICAL SCHOOL (http://www.math-berlin.de), the joint international graduate program of the three major Berlin universities, which is promoted by the German Excellence Initiative and offers training and support to PhD students in many ways.

Candidates must hold a diploma/master's degree in mathematics or computer science and must have very good knowledge in discrete optimization, in particular in integer programming, combinatorial optimization, and graph algorithms. Good command of C++ or an equivalent programming language is required. Knowledge in telecommunication network modeling and optimization is desirable.

Applicants should send their application via email as a *single pdf file* containing:
- cover and motivation letter, with the job reference number FO-701
- curriculum vitae
- copies of diplomas
- summary of Diploma/masters thesis (max. 3 pages in english or german)
- names and contact details of two referees (including thesis advisor)
