[DMANET] PhD project in Maritime Logistics

### PhD project in Maritime Logistics ###
DTU Transport invites applications for a 3-year PhD position starting fall of 2012. The PhD project is financed by the Danish Maritime cluster.
The PhD project concerns the use of transport optimization (operations research) within maritime logistics. The candidate is expected to work on applications related to maritime network design and intermodal operations at container terminals. An example of a possible subject is exact and heuristic algorithms for the multi commodity capacitated network design problem and its application to liner shipping.
The candidate is expected to contribute to teaching at the department. Topics will be related to maritime logistics and the language will be English.
The PhD project will be carried out under the supervision of Associate Professor Stefan Røpke.

### Requirements ###
Candidates must have a master degree in transport optimisation, operations research, mathematics, computer science, or equivalent academic qualifications, preferable with some experiences with transport applications. The grade average of the candidate should fulfill the requirements stated at http://www.dtu.dk/English/education/Phd_Education/PhD_guide/Admission.aspx
Candidates are expected to have substantial experiences with high-level programming languages like Java, C#, C++ or similar and be familiar with mixed integer programming or metaheuristics. Candidates should have good command of the English language. Experience with any of the following is a plus
- Simulation
- Branch-and-cut algorithms
- Branch-and-price algorithms
- Benders decomposition

### Approval and Enrolment ###
The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled at the DTU Transport PhD School. The candidate will be part of the Transport Optimisation and Traffic Engineering section at DTU Transport.

### Salary and appointment terms ###
The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current Danish rules for PhD degree students.

- A cover letter explaining the applicant's motivation to apply for the research project (not more than one page). The cover letter should contain a short description of a possible subject for the thesis. The subject should be relevant to the overall theme of maritime logistics.

- Original course and grade list of bachelor and master degrees
- A copy of the master thesis uploaded as pdf-file, and if available any English papers
