* About the Proceedings ==

The Symposium on Theoretical Aspects of Computer Science (STACS) is held
alternately in France and in Germany. The conference from February 29th to
March 3rd, 2012, held in Paris, is the 29th in this series.
The STACS 2012 call for papers led to 273 submissions from 38 countries.
Each paper was assigned to three program committee members. The committee
selected 54 papers during a two-week electronic meeting held in November.
The overall very high quality of the submissions made the selection a
difficult task. For the 5th time, STACS proceedings are published in
electronic form. Instead of providing a complete printed version, we allowed
participants to print selected papers on place. The electronic proceedings
are available through the LIPIcs (Leibniz International Proceedings in
Informatics) and the HAL (hyper articles en ligne) series. Both, HAL and
LIPIcs, guarantee perennial, free and easy electronic access, while the
authors retain the rights over their work.

* About the STACS Symposium

The "Symposium on Theoretical Aspects of Computer Science" (STACS) takes
place each year since 1984, alternately in Germany and France. Typical
topics of the conference include:
- Algorithms and data structures, including: parallel and distributed
algorithms, computational geometry, cryptography, algorithmic learning theory;
- Automata and formal languages;
- Computational and structural complexity;
- Logic in computer science, including: semantics, specification, and
verification of programs, rewriting and deduction;
- Current challenges, for example: biological computing, quantum computing,
mobile and net computing.

* About the LIPIcs Series

"LIPIcs: Leibniz International Proceedings in Informatics" is a series
of high-quality conference proceedings across all fields in informatics
established in cooperation with "Schloss Dagstuhl--Leibniz Center of
Informatics". LIPIcs volumes are published according to the principle
of OpenAccess, i.e., they are available online and free of charge.
