Drawings of graphs are used to visualize complex data.
This has applications in many branches of science
and technology. Although each application has specific
requirements and objectives a common theoretical basis
for graph drawings has emerged. The main aim of this
course is the study of some key structures and methods.


TOPICS, LECTURER and PROGRAM:

1. Graph Drawing and Network Information Visualization (Ulrik Brandes)
March 22-24, 2011.

2. Drawing Planar Graphs (Eric Fusy)
March 28-30, 2011.

3. Drawing Dags and Posets (Stefan Felsner)
April 1-3, 2011.

4. Crossing Numbers and Crossing Minimization (Petr Hlineny)
April 6-8, 2011.


Lectures: 9:00-10:30 and 11:00-12:30
Exercises: 16:00-18:00

AUDIENCE:


The course is addressed to students, graduate students and postdocs of
Mathematics or Computer Science, who are interested in graph drawing
and the combinatorics behind it.

PARTICIPATION / STIPENDS:
Participation in the course is free of charge. There is a limited
amount of financial support available for PhD-students or for advanced
Master/Diploma students in a field related to the topics of the
course. Applications for financial support, with curriculum vitae,
copies of certificates, thesis, areas of interest, and a letter of
recommendation (sent directly by the letter writer) should be sent by
